1. The value of learning is a worldwide tool used to advance your brain thinking system to help you comprehend and understand information, facts and life much smoother and easier. With learning you can achieve more, you can process more; you can prosper more in life and the tasks ahead.
2. My role as a learner is to develop systems, ideas and information for myself and others. With my learning I believe it can help me achieve further goals in the world, to make a difference, to start a trend. Learning for me allows me newer, more advanced options throughout life.
3. - Determination
- Joy in what you are doing
4. - Interest in what you are teaching/doing
- Common Sense/Reality.
5. The expectation for me is that this class will test my limits and expand my boundaries which will teach me to be more responsible and overall get a good grade that I disserve.
6. The environment that I want is to be strictly straight forward, projects covering the material, homework that is advisable and a fun/energetic teacher.

1. The value of learning is to leave a lasting impression and lasting information upon any person. This information hopefully will help this person to be sucessful in life and then go on into the world to contribute and make the world a better place. Learning helps people to be more considerate of others and have respect for others that they hopefully showed their teachers. Learning creates connections between brain cells and essentially helps people to think wiht a broader perspective and with more intellectual qualities.

2. My role as a learner is to be successfulk and to get good grades to fulfill my goals and go to college and do what I want to do wiht my life. I want to be a psychologist and you have to do well in school. I want good grades and I ahve never not been on the honor roll.

3. A. Hard working
B. Determined

4. A. Loving what you do
B. Consideration

5. I expect this class to be good because you love what you do. I think that the students will make this class great as well.

6. An enviornment to maximize our learning and fun would be to have mutual respect, consideration, hard work and team-work.

The value of learning is to be able to do the things that you want to do. To achive the things you want and be with the people you want to live with. I want a ferrari but i can't get one if I don't have an awsome job. Awsome jobs only come with education and Perseverance. My role as a learner is to make sure the information i get is kept. Two qualities of an effective student are organization and personal drive. Not just going along with the crowd. Two qualities of an effective teacher are the ability to listen and the ability to relax a little bit. One expectation that I have in this class is to help me with grammar. The environment that will help me learn the best is one where the teacher is my friend not my parent.

I think the value of leaning is being able to go further in life. I also think that the more you learn the more opportunities you get in life.

I believe the role of a learner is to learn as much as you can to help your self and maybe others as you go through life.

Two qualities of an effective student are:
1. Doing all your work.
2. Try your hardest and always get help

Two qualities of an efficient teacher are:
1. Being available for help
2. Making what we learn easy and fun to understand for everyone.

I think that this will be a great class if everyone is respectful of one another.

I believe that an organized class will help us learn. If people are not goofing off or being disruptive to other student or the teacher our class will not thrive or have fun. If everyone is respectful of everyone else’s needs the class will run smoothly.

I believe the value of learning is to better yourself for the future. What one learns early in life, prepares them for situations they will come by in the future. Our future jobs, lifestyles and everything else will be determined by what we learn and what we obtain in our lives. Most of the time, if you are taught certain ways of living, you will continue to live that same way when you get older.

My role as a learner is to pay attention and listen to what is being taught. It is my job to make sure I understand and that I will be successful in the future. If no one learns anything, the future will be grim and not successful. People use knowledge in everyday life.

As good student is: Cooperative and a good listener

A good teacher is: Tolerant and entertaining so that the class isn’t super boring.

In this class I expect to have fun.

A quiet and non-disruptive environment will help us learn. If people are slacking off and being loud, it will prevent others from learning what they need to learn. However; it should still be a fun and interesting class that makes you want to learn and pay attention.

1). Learning new things everyday is valuable, because I will more than likely be using the stuff I learn for the rest of my life. What I learn I will keep to also help with learning other things and becoming successful in the future.

2). My role as a learner is to be respectful and take every opportunity I get to become a better student and learner. I need to take full responsibility for learning and using my knowledge to succeed.

3). An effective student keeps themselves organized and on top of studying the topics being discussed in class. Another quality of an effective student is a student that is always applying themselves and always trying to get better and learn more.

4). A quality of an effective teacher is a teacher that engages the whole class in hands-on activities and making the class “fun”. Another quality of an effective teacher is a teacher that helps a student that is having troubles with a topic or that just wants to learn something more, but only if the student is trying to get help and is trying to get a good grade.

5). One expectation that I have for this semester in American Literature is to have fun but also be successful at learning what we need to learn and possibly learning more.

6). A type of environment that will help our class learn and have fun is first of all having a positive atmosphere but also having the majority of the class participating in activities and also being creative. I think that if students look at the positive side of learning it will for sure increase the positive atmosphere in the classroom.

1) What is the value of learning?

Learning and an education is quite possibly the most valuable thing a young adult can procure. Education is the first step a person can take towards adulthood, and it creates the foundation for which the rest of someone's life is built upon. For me personally, I see it as a gift that will propel me to a successful and prosperous future.

2) What is your role as a learner?

As a learner, I'm supposed to be taught by a teacher. It is my responsibility to absorb the material being taught, and then be able to demonstrate what I learn in practice. In the future, it may be necessary for me to become a teacher, so I suppose my current role cound turn into a role that could be valuable to someone else.

3) List two qualities of an effective student

An effective student is one that is attentive, somebody who listens and to what is being taught. They are also grateful and appreciative of what the teacher is doing for them.

4) List two qualities of an effective teacher

An effective teacher is one that is flexible and not too set in their ways. They also understand how to reach their students, and keep them interested in the material.

5) List one expectation you have of this class (what will make this a great class?)

I expect this class to keep me interrested for the entire semester, and present an opportunity to demonstrate what I learn in works other than busywork.

6) What type of environment will help us learn, thrive and have fun?

An environment that is developed around teaching the student is what will make this educational, beneficial, and fun.

1) What is the value of learning?
The value of learning to me is being able to use what I have learned to go to college someday. To reach college you do need to sacrifice a lot of time and effort. To me, the value is being able to look back and see how much I have learned within my last 11 years in school and be proud of all that I know. At times I do feel like school and education is a waste of my time but it becomes more valuable when I think about the less fortunate who do not get the opportunity.

2) What is your role as a learner?
My role as a learner is to absorb information. By absorbing all of this information we have the ability to use these tools in everyday situations. Common sense is not something that we can learn but I believe that it is part of my role to be able to understand right from wrong and school has helped me to make these judgments.

3) List two qualities of an effective student
-confidence
-responsibility

4) List two qualities of an effective teacher
-understanding
-the ability to relate to students

5) List one expectation you have of this class (what will make this a great class?)
My expectation of this class is to have an enjoyable year in which I can still say that I learned a lot.

6) What type of environment will help us learn, thrive and have fun?
An environment that will help me is a fun and efficient classroom in which I feel comfortable.

1) The value of learning is that we can learn and be taught different ways too succeed. We need learning so that we can out smart or out do someone else that is competing.

2) As a learner we have expectations of ourselves and of the teacher. For us too be a good learner we have too be in the right circumstances and feel comfortable with it. In ourselves we must put forth an effort.

3) The student listens and actually obtains and learns the information taught. The student should also have respect and understanding of the instructor. They do not care if you are the one failing it doesn't effect how they are graded or succeed.

4) An effective teacher knows how too talk and use ways of making and helping us(the students) understand. I need the teacher too be available when expected for help and/or questions.

5) That I will know more about American Literature than before I came in.

6) A relaxed yet organized classroom.

1) What is the value of learning?
Learning is our job as teenagers. We are pushed into grade school around the age of 5 and as we progress through school and learn more, we learn that learning is not just something that we have to do, but something that will help us through out our lives. To me, learning is very valuable. Many jobs now are only offered with the presence of a college degree, and to get into college you must obtain a high school diploma. “Not only for school, but for life we learn” –Anonymous, this quote has stated and is hung in the Arapahoe High School gymnasium and is a quote that ties in with this question. Of course we learn to get through school, but we also learn to get through life itself. As a teenager, my greatest value is learning. Learning about our history, language, mathematics, and how things work and why they happen is my major priority, everything else for now, is just a part of the ride.

2) What is your role as a learner?
My role as a learner is to learn and be able to retain as much information as I can. Ever since day one as a baby I have been learning about the world around me and now that I am in high school I am learning even more. This information is not just forced into us to help us pass a grade, but is knowledge that we can use for the rest of our lives.

3) List two qualities of an effective student
-respect
-ability to open up your mind to new ideas

4) List two qualities of an effective teacher
-able to direct the lesson plan to each of the learning styles so that all kids may value
-a good personality and an open mind

5) List one expectation you have of this class (what will make this a great class?)
I expect to learn more information and not only to read books and about author’s, but to learn more in-depth about them as well.

6) What type of environment will help us learn, thrive and have fun?
I think an environment that will help us learn is a classroom in which we are comfortable and are able to discus topics.

1. I believe that the value of learning is to help me prepare to live on my own, even if I won't use half of the things I'm being taught. Having that extra knowledge couldn't hurt either. Knowledge is a key to success. The more knowledge you have then the more successful you will be in the future.

2. My role as a learner is to learn to learn in other ways than the one I'm used to. Exploring different techniques and strategies.

3. motivated
focused

4. commited to teaching
knowledgable on their students and how to connect with them.

5. a challenge

6. The type of environment that will help me learn is one where I'm comfortable in situations that are challenging me. I can be comfortable being around the teacher and other students.

1. Learning is the foundation of society, the value of which can not be comparable to a number value. Although some may argue that one person’s learning experience holds more worth than another, having a learning experience is what holds the greatest importance. Our society’s success is dependant on the society members’ ability to be a continual learner. Thus allowing the society to be further growing and advancing. While the value of learning can be unclear in the short term, it is the long term successes that are reached because of learning that make it all worth while and necessary.
2.As a learner, it is crucial that you take an active role. A person can only become what they desire to be if they put in the effort. As cliché as it may be, a learner is a sponge; soaking up the information thrown at them. Yet in a literal sense, a learner is quite greater then a sponge. However, a learner only exceeds the level of a sponge when they begin to take the information thrown at them, which they’ve “soaked up” if you will, to form conclusions and inferences.
3.1. Motivated 2. Ambitious
4.1. Passionate 2. Willing
5.My expectation for this class is that it will further improve my writing abilities (through Alis).
6.An environment that is relaxed yet productive, positive yet open-minded will allow the people in the environment thrive and have fun.

1. I think learning is the most important thing happening right now in my life right now. When I get older I want to be a successful person and make enough money to support a family; in order to do this I need to get a good enough education that I will be able to get a job that pays well. Also when I get older I want to be respected by friends, family, and loved ones and I think that having a good education will help me gain that.
2. My role as a learner is to learn as much as I can to be a better person. It is not my job to just “slide by” as some would say it, but it is to excel in what I do to the best of my ability so I can be a better person later in life.
3. Two qualities of an effective learner is respect for the person teaching and an attitude that allows the learner to learn as much as possible.
4. Two qualities of an effective teacher is that they are reasonable and understand the students can’t be perfect because they are learning the material to try to be more perfect. Also they are not lecturers because when they lecture students get board and it is harder to learn.
5. I expect this class to teach me about American literature while helping me to learn to write because I am not a good writer.
6. I learn well in environments that allow the students to interact.

1) To me the value of learning is that some day when I have to get a job I can understand and do what I need to do to succeed at what I do.
2) My role as a learner is listening and doing my best to remember what I am being taught.
3) -Understanding what is being taught.
-Using what is being taught
4) -Making sure that students understand what is being taught
-They make things interesting
5) To learn how to connect and ask deep questions
6) The type of environment that will help me to learn is one that does not involve busy work.

1. For me the value of learning is being able to know all of the information that I am taught. I want to be able to know as much as I possibly can, not just to get great job and get lots of money but to have the knowledge so when some on asks me something I can have the answer. I want to have the answer to simple questions or hard questions. Questions about places, time periods and all the little known facts.
2. My role as a learner is along the lines of what learning is to me. My job is not to get through class and school with good grades. It is to actually know and listen so I can have information in the future when it becomes necessary.
3. An effective student takes the information further than the piece of paper. They also don’t do the work just to be done with it. They do it to soak in the knowledge.
4. Like a student the teacher teaches past the busy work. They teach for life instead of for a grade. Also they help as much as they can without giving them selves serious grief.
5. I would like to be a better writer. Or write for something that means something to me instead of something that I have no interest in.
6. Well I think that a communicative fun environment will help people learn pretty well. One where we can talk and go over things instead of just listing to stuff.

1) The value of learning is it helps me to expand my knowledge. Without learning I can't get a good job once I'm out of college. Learning allows us to thrive and get the most out of life. Learning makes it so you can achieve anything.

2) My role as a learner is to obtain the most knowledge I can so I can further my education and therefore get a good job. I want to learn a lot so I can have a better future.

3) -Being a good listener.
-Getting involved in the
discussions.

4)-Enjoy teaching.
-Getting the students to think
deeper.

5)-Get my writing to a higher
level.
-Get my self to go deeper in
thought.

6)To help us learn, thrive and have fun we need a relax atmosphere in the class. With the class being relaxed it allows people to get more involved in the class.

1) Learning is something that is essential to our lives. Without education it is hard to achieve many of my lifetime goals and dreams. Learning is one of the most valuable things you can receive so we must learn to not take if for granted. Personally I don't always enjoy school so I have to periodically remind myself the value of learning is greater then anything else we can receive. It will take us places that not very many people can go. We have been given this valuable gift in America so I need to learn to be grateful.

2) As learners we are all given certain roles in which we contribute to the learning environment. The teachers are given the role to teach us things that we are required to learn or things that we can use throughout our lives. So my role is to listen and try and understand what they want me to learn as well as I can. I need to improve my attitude when I am taught things I don’t enjoy. My role is to be the best listener and hard worker as I can be.

3) Organized
Hard working

4) Intelligent
Caring for every individual need

5) Everyone in the class is involved in the discussions not just the teacher. We all contribute to the class in our own individual ways.

6) A fun classroom where we can be crazy sometimes but then be serious and have good conversations other times. It would also help to do all sorts of things to learn.

1. The value of learning is turning information into knowledge that you can keep forever. Teachers can spit out information to me but that does not necessarily mean that I will learn it. It is my choice to learn the stuff that teachers teach me. Once you actually learn something, it is in your brain, and the value of that is irreplaceable.

2. My role as a learner is to give my time and respect to the teacher. If I listen to what they have to say, then most likely I will gain the knowledge.

3. An effective student has great study habits. Usually in a silent environment with not a lot of distractions, in order to stay on topic for a long amount of time. An effective student always takes notes, and writes down all the homework in an agenda to guarantee a finished job.

4. An effective teacher gives the students the content and explains it with high detail. However, an effective teacher can not be boring. Usually an effective teacher keeps the class interested by using an exuberant voice and by telling stories or jokes that go along with the content.

5. I would like to have more efficient reading comprehension. In the past, if I were to read something, I would have to read it more than once to understand it really well.

6. A class room environment with very communicative debates will help us learn more. Especially debatable questions with more than one answer to help us see different sides to the question.

1. The value of learning is never ending. Knowledge is your tool to move forward through school, work, and life. It helps you to comphehend things easier and more efficiently. You never stop the process of learning; it's ongoing because the brain will always be pulling in information, know matter how old or youg you are.
2. My role as a learner is to gain as much as I can from learning. I want to be able to develop systems of my own and be independent and confident in whatever I set my mind to.
3. An effective student is responsible and hardworking.
4. An effective teacher is one that does a great job in keeping the attention of a class and also, is proficient in making learning fun.
5. I expect to get better at english and learn about American lit.
6. One where you can feel safe to make mistakes and have a good time but, also feel confident and secure.

1. The value of learning to me is to be more knowledgeable and to better my way of life. In my opinion how much you learn and how much you know determines how you are perceived by other people. For instance, if I were to apply for a job, I’d think that I would stand a much better chance of getting that job if I came off as smart and ready to learn. People appreiciate ready learners because there’s always room to grow and learn more which in the end, makes for a much better, more intelligent world.
2. My role as a learner is to learn as much as possible in order to make myself a better person and in turn help others around me learn more.
3. Effective students have a willing attitude to learn and a hard work ethic.
4. An effective teacher makes learning enjoyable for their students and takes pride in what their profession.
5. I think the different activities Mrs. Comp described on the first day of school will make for a great classroom environment.
6. In my opinion, a fun, laid back, but professional classroom will make a great learning environment for this class.

1. To me, learning is important for me to get into college. Sometimes I really don’t care about what I’m learning about in certain classes because it doesn’t interest me at all, but when I take time to think about it, it doesn’t matter if I like it or not. I have to go through it and get good enough grades to get into a good school. If I’m learning new things outside of school for myself, it’s easier to work with it and get through it because I know since I’m interested in it, it may lead me into something like a career.

2. My role as a learner is to accept the fact that I have to work hard on things I might not like. As pointless as it seems, I know it will help me go somewhere in life. Ill have to try to stay positive through all of it.

3. Two qualities of an effective student are staying positive and having fun. You have to make the best of the things you are doing to enjoy them. Also, you need a break from schoolwork and the stress that comes with it. When you have fun and do your own thing, the hard work will come easier.

4. An effective teacher would be one who knows what’s really important or not. I think making sure we understand is more important than giving us busy work. Also, they should have a personality that makes a student feel like they can come to you.

5. An expectation I have of this class is for it to let people speak up and let everyone hear different points of view.

6. I think an environment where there is a lot of communication, working together, and telling your opinion will help the class because we will get to know each other better and be comfortable in the class.

1) Learning has incredible value as it is the only way to try anything new. The simplest action would not be possible without the ability to learn. Every single one of us has used this power to start walking, talking, running, adding, writing, and so on. When we are older we learn more complex ideas and abilities as we create our own identities and world. Without the potential to learn, we as humans will not amount to anything.
2) My role as a learner is to be observant of the world around me and to keep an open mind throughout my day. I should continually be looking for ways to expand my horizons and in order to create a future for myself I should have a good work ethic. Also, it is important to be respectful of others as they learn and of you as you teach.
3) A positive attitude & curious mind
4) Constructively critical & flexible
5) From what I hear last class, I expect this class to be full of new projects and ideas my other English teachers haven’t tried before.
6) A fun, respectful environment where we feel free to share our ideas and work.

1.) Why would a high school teacher preach a concept to their students that they could never use again or never apply to their life? To me, the value of learning targets one main idea, taking learned information from school, from other people and from various sources and applying it to life. School gets boring when a teacher just talks and talks about something that makes me pose the question, when would I ever use this in real life? When I am forty and have a whole different lifestyle than I do in my school years, can I use this information to not only make me exceed my personal expectations, but those of others around me. Learning should be taken very seriously in those years that really matter. During high school, students are taught things that will shape them for the rest of their lives.

2.) Own it. In my opinion, those two words describe high school as a whole and what it should be to the students. Something that bothers me when I first walk in a classroom is when the teacher starts babying a class. The number one expectation of a student should be that they should be responsible for everything they do or say, or sometimes the things they don’t do. In order to learn, sometimes people have to make mistakes. If someone’s hand is held throughout school, how are they ever going to make mistakes and learn to develop into a better, more experienced person? As a result, responsibility of one’s actions and owning a situation should be the role of a learner, and more specific, my role as a learner.

3.) Two qualities of an effective student would be time management (no procrastination) and participation in the class environment.

4.) Two qualities of an effective teacher would be to encourage student interaction and to be organized.

5.) One expectation of this class is that we will have several different ways to portray our work (blog, paper, poem, etc.)

6.) The type of environment that will help us learn, thrive, and have fun would be a positive class feel. If everyone is positive, then no one will be afraid to speak, and therefore will feel involved in everything the class does.

1) The value of learning is important, sometimes if something sounds or looks interesting then I want to know more about it, I really enjoy trying and finding out new things. Also, personally, when you want to learn more about something it may open more doors into larger subjects and interesting things that you didn't know about before.

2) My role as a learner is to try my best and work hard. Also I would like to set goals to try to learn new things and have fun doing it.

3) Respectful towards others.
Enthusiastic.

4) Positive.
Helpful.

5) One expectation that I have of this class is to enjoy it and take things as they come.

6) An active and fun environment will help to make things more relaxed and just to enjoy the class more.

1)What is the value of learning?
The value of learning is that education comes to us everyday and we need to find productive ways to use what we learn. There’s a point to going to school and being in high school right now is very important. If we didn’t learn anything during high school there would be no point in going on to college or getting a successful job. Not using what we learn is a waste and so the value of learning is that education helps us with everything that has to come in the future.

2) What is your role as a learner?
My role as a learner is to learn everything that I can before I move on in the future so that I can be as successful as possible. I have to know that what I do now will reflect on my future. I learn something everyday and it’s just a matter actually knowing the criteria, not just learning it.

3) List two qualities of an effective student
1. An effective student is someone who thinks about the future and knows what they need to do to get to their goals.
2. An effective student is someone who tries their best to keep up in class and to try and learn everything they can.

4) List two qualities of an effective teacher
1. I think an effective teacher tries out different things in class so that their classes aren’t the same boring thing everyday.
2. An effective teacher is someone who gets involves with the students so that they can learn as much as they can.

5) List one expectation you have of this class (what will make this a great class?)
I think this class shouldn’t be extremely difficult, but also it shouldn’t be a class where everyone can just slack off. It should have challenges, and things that keep the classroom upbeat and fun.

6) What type of environment will help us learn, thrive and have fun?
I like the type of classes where everyone can get involved. Good discussions are really helpful especially on more interesting topics not just on books. Not just lectures and note taking all the time because that’s boring and it’s harder for me to pay attention.

1) Learning is the basis of society today. Schooling is extremely valuable in this day in age, in which we students take for granted every day we walk into this building. Personally, I am a victim of this and have a bad attitude about my learning quite often, yet I still believe that I will need it to accomplish my ambitions in life. I will attend college after high school in which my education will be extremely valuable. Education is essential for not only growth but independent opinions as well.

2) As a learner, I believe that my role would include active participation but through my participation I would also take time to become an intent listener, soaking up as much information as possible to further my knowledge for the future. Also, by soaking up as much information as possible, will guide teaching for the next generation and so on.

3) Qualities of a good student
• Hard working
• Motivated

4) Qualities of a good teacher
• Passionate
• Fun

5) One expectation I have for this class is the whole idea of respect. If people respect each other and one another’s opinions in this class, I believe that this class will be successful and fun.

6) A successful environment would be relaxed but knowledgeable at the same time…a comfortable and open atmosphere.

Learning has great value to me. Without learning you cannot better yourself as a person. Whether it is learning something new at school or learning how to drive, you are advancing your knowledge of yourself and the world. Even when watching TV you are learning. It might be something completely pointless but it is something new and you never know when you might use that information.

My role as a learner varies with what I am trying to learn. If it is something I am interested in and want to learn about, I will try hard and take in the information. On the other hand if it something I find boring or irrelevant then I usually only do assignments and don’t actually retain all the information.

Two qualities of an effective student are first, someone who has good work ethic. This meaning they turn in all of their homework on time, study for tests, and get good grades. Another good quality is when a student can balance having friends, playing sports, and school work and be efficient at all of them.

Two qualities of an effective teacher is someone who is very supportive of their students. They also have to teach lessons in an interesting way so that class is bearable.

An expectation I have for this class is to first of all become a better writer and who knows maybe even have a little fun. I would also like to read a book in class that I really enjoy. So far I have not.

The type of environment that I think would help the class thrive is one that is very comfortable. This is important so that everyone can share their own ideas and opinions without being scared of what others think.

There is no definite value of learning. You could spend a large sum of time learning only to find out that that time was completely wasted. The value of learning depends on the importance and applicability of what you are learning.

My role as a learner is to learn what I am supposed to as efficiently as possible while finding meaning in what I am learning for myself.

A Good Student is -
- Organized
- Able to derive meaning from what they are learning, and able to apply what they are learning

A Good Teacher -
- Challenges their student and forces them to grow
- Cares less about grades and more about how much their students learn.

I expect this class to push me to learn and grow in my writing and understanding of English.

An environment that holds us, the students, responsible for our own learning and challenges us to grow will achieve all of the goals that need to be covered.
